Brittany Lincicome and Stacy Lewis in high spirits after LPGA Lotte Championship
Brittany Lincicome and the major champion Stacy Lewis look set to improve their world rankings at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, slated from April 26-29, at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course.
Lincicome and Lewis have been tough contenders in LPGA tournaments, however, the field at the $1,250,000 event is said to be far more fearsome than last year’s, as most of the top-ranked players have confirmed their participation.
The two American players participated in last week’s LPGA Lotte Championship. Lincicome finished tied for the 27th, while Lewis failed to make the cut.
Analysts said that the two players can pose a serious challenge to rivals, but given their performances since the start of the 2012 season, it appears unlikely that they will be able to beat big names at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course.
Lincicome played slightly better than Lewis at the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Lotte Championship.
However, the American player could not maintain her momentum in the final round, as she tumbled from tie 16 to tie 27.
Lincicome kicked off the fourth round in an unimpressive style, as she shot a bogey on the 2nd hole. She recorded only two birdies and four bogeys in the final round, marring her position on the leaderboard.
Lincicome boasts a solid profile, as she racked up her first major title at the 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship. She won her last title at CN Canadian Women’s Open in the 2011 season.
On the other hand, Stacy Lewis also grabbed her first major title at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2011. However, she is far behind her fellow American when it comes to the number of victories on the LPGA Tour.
Lewis has won only one event on the LPGA Tour, while Lincicome boasts 5 triumphs.
According to the tournament details, the 144-player field at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic will be featuring formidable contenders like the defending champion Maria Hjorth, the world number ten Paula Creamer, Karrie Webb and Si Ri Pak.
Tournament officials said that due to a massive presence of American players, the event will stage a tougher battle than the fans expect.
“Anytime you have the top American players Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lincicome (all ranked in the top 10 of the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings), plus crowd favorites like Christina Kim, Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis, we
are in for a great week of entertaining golf in Mobile," Mobile Bay LPGA Classic Director Jonathan Romeo said during an interview.
