Brittany Lincicome drops to 14th in world rankings
American Brittany Lincicome has dropped to 14th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, after finishing outside the top 50 in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012.
Lincicome won the 2011 edition of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 and attempted to defend her title. However, her performance was not up to the mark, which caused her to finish tied for the 60th position
on the leaderboard.
Finishing poor at the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament caused Lincicome to slip two spots. Now that the American star has lost her previous position in world rankings, it has become crucial
for her to perform well in the coming Kingsmill Championship 2012, scheduled to begin from September 6-9 at Virginia, United States.
Analysts said that letting amateur Lydia Ko walk away with her title at Vancouver rattled Lincicome a bit, but she has decided to move on and will keep an eye on the coming tournaments.
Unlike CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, the Safeway Classic 2012 proved lucky for the rising LPGA star as she finished tied for the second position after posting an overall 205.
“It kind of started out slow. Felt like I was going through the motions on the first, four, five, six holes. It was nice to get a birdie, then I got another birdie, and it was like okay, let's keep going,”
Lincicome had said at the end of the first round that saw her fire a 67.
“I don't feel like I putted it bad last week, but I wasn't hitting my irons close enough. So today it was nice to have some putts inside of ten feet for birdie. So those five‑footers were always fun”.
Commentators said that the upcoming battle at Virginia is very important for Lincicome as she needs to keep the momentum going in the current season. Thanks to her solid work ethic and effective plan for the
season, the professional golfer has been able to record good finishes in some of the recent tournaments.
The year 2011 went well for Lincicome as she won two tournaments. In addition to proving her mettle at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2011, she clinched a victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June 2011.
Having racked up one major title, Lincicome has positioned herself as a talented player on the LPGA Tour and her fan following has also increased in the last few months.
