Brittany Lincicome finishes as top American at CME Group Titleholders 2012
This Sunday, American Brittany Lincicome did what she does best on an American course, grinding most of her nearest rivals in submission at the CME Group Titleholders.
However, she was not able to steal the show at the season-ending LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament at The TwinEagles Club, Florida, as she posted an overall score of 277
to take the third position.
Lincicome was one of the American stars who stood their ground till the end of the final moment. Having got off to a sensible start that saw her post a 68 in the opening round, the LPGA titan
managed to put herself in a comfortable position, but still failed to grab a lead.
The second round also saw Lincicome hold her ground as she registered a 69. However, shooting a 70 in the third round seemed to rattle her, as South Korean rivals ramped up pressure and gained
positions in the top 3.
With South Korean Na Yeon Choi and Japanese Ai Miyazato having grabbed the first and second position on the leaderboard on Saturday, things seemed to go against Lincicome and she found herself
struggling to cling to a tie-4 position.
However, shooting a 74 on Sunday tainted Miyazato’s scorecard and she tumbled to the fifth spot, letting the American golfer jump to a solo third position.
Commentators said that Lincicome might have faced a little pressure on the course, given the home crowd and home soil—but when it came to short game, she was better than most of her fellow
Americans.
Na Yeon Choi stole the show this time, as the young gun pounded the entire field with birdies and near-perfect strokes in all four rounds. The South Korean star carded a total score of 274
to win the prestigious title.
Sharing her thoughts after hoisting the title on Sunday, the winner said that she was more than happy to finish the season off with a victory. Choi attributed the success to her parents’ support,
saying she had also gained a mental boost during the US Women’s Open 2012, which she won by four strokes.
“You know, this week my mom's here, so I don't know, I feel like I think she proud of me, so I really happy,” Choi said.
