Brittany Lincicome firm to defend title at ShopRite LPGA Classic
Brittany Lincicome, who won the ShopRite LPGA Classic, last year, is seeking to defend her title at this year’s edition, with a more solid strategy.
The tournament is scheduled to start from June 1, at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, with a strong field featuring key LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars, like the current world number one Yani Tseng and number three Suzann Pettersen.
Lincicome, who belongs to America, is being considered one of the hot favourites for the title, but she will surely face a tough time, given the presence of top-ranked players.
Some of the prominent players in roster include Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Jessica Korda, Maria Hjorth, Na Yeon Choi, Sun Young Yoo, Shanshan Feng, Laura Davies who recently finished runner-up at the Unicredit Ladies German Open, Jin Young Pak and I.K Kim.
Analysts said that the defending champion is expected to meet tough resistance from young Azahara Munoz, who won the Sybase Match Play Championship 2012. Munoz appears to be in high spirits and vowed to repeat her stunning performance.
Although Lincicome has been a little troubled about making a solid comeback in the current season, her performance in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic seems to have dispelled concerns over her poor form.
The American played an excellent game in this year’s Women’s Australian Open and came close to winning the tournament. She moved into the playoffs, but unfortunately could not beat strong rivals like Stacy Lewis and Jessica Korda.
The 2011 season went well for the American prodigy. First off, she proved her worth at the ShopRite LPGA Classic and then she racked up her second title at the CN Canadian Women’s Open in August.
During one of her interviews, a few weeks back, Lincicome had said that she would try to repeat her 2011 performance in the current season.
“That would be amazing.  The first ‑‑ the playoff in Australia felt surreal, you know.  It's the first tournament of the year and I'm tied for the lead and I didn't know what to do with myself.  It was a very strange feeling, and obviously playing with six
people, that was kind of crazy,” the 26-year-old said.
