Brittany Lincicome storms off course after missing cut at Kingsmill Championship
American Brittany Lincicome was more than thrilled when she kicked off the Kingsmill Championship on Thursday, but her confidence waned after she posted an unimpressive 73 in the first round at Williamsburg, Virginia.
Lincicome exuded a mixture of hope and disappointment after making a bad start, which further took a toll on her overall position as she missed the cut.
The American star knew the only thing that could help her edge past players like Stacy Lewis and Na Yeon Choi was resilience, but when she faced rivals, her shots became faulty.
The second round proved just as bad for Lincicome as she carded a 71. Commentators said that making a poor start dampened Lincicome’s spirits and she started faltering on almost all the holes she played.
The course of the Kingsmill once again came to life after the prestigious tournament returned here after a gap of years. Crowd support was immense, as most of the American stars though they would have an edge over Asian rivals.
Some of the players did capitalise on the crowd support, but overall, Asian players grabbed much of the attention throughout the four days.
The only American player who was able to give Asians a tough time was Paula Creamer. Creamer lost the match to South Korean Jiyai Shin in playoff.
Although unable to grab the title, Creamer looked satisfied with her performance. She did not blame her performance for her defeat.
The match stretched into its fifth day as the playoff had to be suspended due to bad light on Sunday.
Creamer shared her thought at the end of the match on Monday, saying her nerves were a bit jumpy after she came to know that she and Shin had to return to the course on Monday morning to finish off the tournament.
However, she added that she enjoyed playing against Shin. “Chalk it up for experience right there, that's for sure. It's hard, yes, but you know, I was just strictly ‑‑ people were asking, are you tired? I was like, not at all, so much adrenaline, I was so excited,” Creamer said.
With the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 set to start from September 13-16, in the United Kingdom, players are now gearing up for another tough fight.
