Brittany Lincicome wins the ShopRite LPGA Classic
Brittany Lincicome smashed a score of 5-under par 66 in the final round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic to lift her fourth trophy on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour. The $1.5 million event took place at the par-71
Bay Course at Dolce Seaview Resort in Galloway, New Jersey.
The 25-year-old Lincicome stepped into the final round with a score of 64 and once again, managed to entertain the crowd with her solid iron-play. Utilizing her prowess on the fairways, the winner of 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship
reeled five birdies, out of which, the last one was seen on the closing hole. Lincicome, who was tied in regulation with Jiyai Shin and Cristie Kerr until the 17th hole with a score of 10-under par, defined her strategy to approach the par-5 hole
and followed it with persistency.
The LPGA pro hit a tee shot onto the left side of the fairway to aim for the green in two shots. She clutched a 3-wood in her hands on the fairway and faded a shot onto the left side of the green, but failed to hit the target.
Instead, the ball landed in the long fescue grass that covered the rear of the green. Despite encountering a hazard in a crucial moment, Lincicome did not lose her cool and chipped the ball out from it making ground for her winning birdie.
The Florida native held her breath for a moment and raised her arms in the air to celebrate her victory.
“Everything kind of fell my way. It was clearly my week. I started on fire. I made an eagle. I made some birdies. Kind of halfway until the end I left everything short. I got really tight, really super nervous. Couldn’t seem to
get a putt to the hole and nothing was really happening. It was kind of boring,” said Lincicome on her way to the winner’s podium.
She was followed by Shin and Kerr, who produced a score of 10-under par each. Catriona Matthew occupied the fourth place, while Anna Nordqvist signed for a 66 to take a share in the fifth place with I.K. Kim.
The worst finish was by the former defending champion, Ai Miyazato, who compiled a score of 70 to take a shared 20th place.
