Brittany MacLean excels in Women’s 800m freestyle heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Brittany MacLean of UCSC excelled in the qualification rounds of Women’s 800m freestyle on day four of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Friday, March 30.
The 18-year-old MacLean remained prominently ahead of her fellow swimmers from the first lap of the event. With her unimaginable pace and utter determination, she managed to outperform her closest competitor, Savannah King on the finishing end.
With her alluring efforts, she went full rampant in the 800m discipline and reached the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 42.83 seconds. Her magnificent effort remained 0.03 seconds ahead of King, who clocked an effort of 8
minutes and 42.86 seconds for second position.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Heather Maitland of TSC, who remained substantially slower from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing wall as third fastest swimmer with the timing of 8 minutes and 48.38 seconds.
The 22-year-old Maitland was followed by Sherry Liu of HYACK, who earned fourth qualifying spot of the race by posting a time of 8 minutes and 49.18 seconds.
The fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Bridget Coley of HAC, who completed her pace in a time of 8 minutes and 49.94 seconds. Afterwards, Alexa Komarnycky of IS snared sixth best position of the discipline as she remained almost two seconds
slower from her foregoing competitor and tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 51.26 seconds.
Komarnycky was followed by Zsofia Balazs of TSC, who stayed almost 2.50 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing wall for seventh position by producing a time of 8 minutes and 53.91 seconds.
The last qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Tyra Rooney of CASC, who remained 0.56 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as eighth position holder by posting a time of 8 minutes and 54.47 seconds.
MacLean was overjoyed with her impressive effort in the prelims of 800m discipline and said that she will try to sustain her pace in the final round.
