Brittany Maclean wins Women’s 200m freestyle crown - 2011 FINA World Junior Championships: Day six
Day six of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships ended with scintillating swims of Brittany Maclean of Canada and United States’ squad in the final heats in Lima, Peru, on Sunday, August 21. The final session of the meet conducted the Women’s 200m freestyle
and Men’s 4x100m medley relay races.
In the Women’s 200m freestyle final splash, Canada’s Brittany Maclean took home the gold medal with a victorious mark of 1 minute and 58.93 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Chelsea Chenault of United States earned silver medal in 1 minute and 59.69 seconds
and Yuanhui Fu of China grabbed bronze title in a time of 1 minute and 59.70 seconds.
Aya Takano of Japan was placed fourth in a time of 2 minutes and 00.55 seconds, while Gillian Ryan of United States of America finished fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 01.25 seconds. Mikkayla Sheridan of Australia earned sixth place honours in a time of
2 minutes and 02.27 seconds.
Urza Bezan of Slovenia was placed seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 02.72 seconds and Ksenia Yuskova of Russia settled for eighth spot with a mark of 2 minutes and 03.06 seconds.
In the meantime, the Men’s 4x100m medley relay crown was taken over by United States’ team of Jacob Pebley, Nicolas Fink, Maclin Davis and Seth Stubblefield with a winning mark of 3 minutes and 39.65 seconds. In the corresponding race, Japan’s squad of Kosuke
Hagino, Akihiro Yamaguchi, Fumiya Hidaka and Kenta Hirai took home the silver medal on the podium by posting a stunning time of 3 minutes and 39.92 seconds.
Italy’s Fabio Laugeni, Flavio Bizzarri, Martino Lucatello and Giacomo Ferri earned bronze medal with a victorious mark of 3 minutes and 42.44 seconds. Greece’s quartet of Alexandros Theocharidis, Panaotis Samilidis, Andreas Vazaios and Kristian Gkolomeev
was placed fourth in a time of 3 minutes and 42.95 seconds.
Germany’s team of Christian Diener, Bastian Vollmer, Marius Kusch and Max Mral settled fifth with a time of 3 minutes and 46.30 seconds. Russia earned sixth position in 3 minutes and 46.40 seconds, whereas, China was placed seventh in a time of 3 minutes
and 48.65 seconds.
The arena applauded for matchless swims of all swimmers, while the winners were awarded medals after the session’s completion.
