Brittney Harley captures Women’s 200m freestyle: Day one – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Brittney Harley of VAND captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on first day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Thursday, July 19.
Harley made her way into the final round as second best swimmer behind Sherry Liu of HYACK but with her notable efforts in the playoff, she proved her eligibility for the title of the discipline.
She continued her smothering efforts in the final round and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 02.37 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Liu, who stayed 0.24 seconds behind and reached the finishing wall for second position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 02.61 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Sarah-Lee Hevey of CAMO, who was 0.06 seconds behind and occupied bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 02.67 seconds for bronze medal.
Hevey was followed by Lauren Earp of ESWIM, who stayed just one arm-stroke behind and earned fourth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 02.81 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was secured by Paige Schultz of TSC, who was 0.18 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 02.99 seconds.
The 20-year-old Schultz was trailed by Alyson Ackman of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who remained 0.21 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for sixth position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 03.20 seconds.
Similarly, Ackman was chased by Lili Margitai of KEYANO, who was 0.07 seconds apart and sprinted her way to the wall as seventh position holder by posting a time of 2 minutes and 03.27 seconds.
Margitai was followed by Breanna Hendriks of UCSC, who remained 0.10 seconds away from her former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 03.37 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Harley expressed contentment over her victory in the four-lap freestyle event while the session ended after the race.
