Swansea City midfielder, Leon Britton has admitted that he will be thoroughly disappointed if Joe Allen opts to decamp from the Liberty Stadium to join Liverpool.
The Welsh footballer is reportedly under the radar of the Merseyside club, who recently made a renewed 12 million pounds offer for the 22-year old.
However, the Swans are determined to put up a fight in keeping the player at the Liberty Stadium. They have already termed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s overtures for the player as illegitimate, citing Brendan Rodgers compensatory deal with the Welsh club. Swansea claim that
according to the terms of the agreement, the Northern Irishman cannot pursue their players until the next summer.
Allen, who began his career in the Swansea youth academy, played an important role in his side’s debut Premier League campaign, netting 4 goals in 39 appearances.
Keeping in view his importance in the squad, Britton felt that it was pertinent on the part of the club to hold onto the player, and conceded that he will be gutted if he snubs Swansea to join Liverpool.
While talking to reporters, he said: “We would be disappointed if Joe goes… That's because if he goes, we know we will be losing a really good player. Players like Joe are hard to replace — the money they are talking about him going for tells you how good
he is.”
However, despite highlighting Allen’s importance to Swansea, the English International advised his club not to pressurize him into staying if he decides to leave. Even though he admitted that the midfielder’s departure could possibly create a gaping hole
in the team, he viewed it as a step forward in his career.
He then went on to say that he will respect whatever decision the player makes regarding his future, and felt that he will be justified if he pursues a career with a top flight team.
“You don't want to put pressure on him, but he is such a good player… Hopefully that's [his future] with Swansea, but if it's not then hopefully he goes to one of the big clubs, because that's where he deserves to be.”
