The agent of Swansea City’s Leon Britton felt that his client deserved to be a part of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s 23-man squad for the European Championships, keeping in view his exceptional performance for Swansea in the previous season.
The 29-year old remained the linchpin of the Swans midfield in the last term, as he went on to achieve the highest percentage of pass completion in Europe to help his side make an impressive return to the Premier League.
However, the talented midfielder failed to get an international call-up for the ongoing Euros in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032, as national manager Roy Hodgson announced a squad dominated in numbers by the players from the top flight teams in the Premier League.
England went on to lose in the quarterfinals of the competition to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 on a penalty shoot-out.
Anyhow, the player’s representative Glenn Cocoran insisted that Britton’s notable show for the Swans last season merited him a place in the European Championships.
He told the reporters in an interview, “Anyone who has seen Swansea will see the role that Leon plays and see how instrumental he is to the way that Swansea played and the success that they achieved last season.”
The diminutive player, who has capped a staggering 357 appearances for the Welsh outfit, was one of the masterminds of the Swans ascent to the pinnacle of English football. He represented them in League Two, League One, and the Championship and also spent
a brief one-year spell at Sheffield United in between.
Nevertheless, Cocoran believed that Hodgson should have played the midfielder in the Three Lions pre-tournament friendly fixtures in order to gauge his potential. He pointed out that even though the manager named scores of young players in the crew in order
to bring extra energy in the team, the only reason for Britton’s omission was the fact that he did not hail from a top flight club.
He added, “You see some of the players that were included in the squad, and there were some young players but they weren’t used. So what difference did it make that Leon was 29?”
“I just think it was more the reason that he wasn’t playing for one of the top six clubs.”
