Swansea City midfielder, Leon Britton was impressed with his team’s fighting spirit against Stuttgart in a pre-season game last Saturday.
The Welsh outfit trailed Stuttgart 2-0 at the end of first half, but rallied to score 3 second half goals to claim a surprise lead. However, a late equalizer from the German side denied them the victory, as both the teams were forced to settle for a 3-3
draw.
Evaluating the Swans performance in the game, the English International went on to praise their strong resilience and fighting spirit for overcoming a slow start. He conceded that their performance in the first half was well below par, but felt that they
were clearly the better of the two teams in the second period.
While talking to reporters, he said: “We showed good character to come back and we are a little disappointed to concede a goal after we had taken the lead. Our shape wasn’t great in the first half and we gave them too many opportunities.”
Swansea will kick start their 2012/13 Premier League campaign against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 on Saturday at the Loftus Road Stadium – a place where they are yet to record their first win.
Their last visit to QPR saw them suffer a 3-0 defeat in April.
The 29-year old was wary of their tough opener on the weekend, but believed that they were better prepared this time around to notch up their first win at QPR.
The Welsh club took everyone by the storm last season, as they finished their campaign at an impressive eleventh place. However, they now face the challenging task of continuing their remarkable run, following the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Joe Allen
from the Liberty Stadium this summer.
Britton admitted that the mood in the dressing room was downbeat after Allen’s exodus last week, but offered the Welsh midfielder his best wishes in his future endeavours.
“Obviously we’re disappointed to lose Joe, but it’s a great chance for him and we’re all delighted for him and everyone in the squad wishes him all the best… it’s been a joy to watch him grow over the last few years and we really hope it works out for him
up there.”
