Brixia Sport to back Team Liquigas-Cannondale through 2013
Team Liquigas-Cannondale is having an outstanding season and its strength as a unit is quite visible by looking at its 2012 performances.
The team has taken yet another leap after its General Manager Robert Amadio managed to secure a new sponsor, Brixia Sport for the season ahead.
"We need to use what we have created up till now as our new starting point,” he noted.
“We plan to pursue the project with maximum attention to detail in every aspect of competitive riding that ensures athletes have the right framework, facilities and professionals at their disposal".
The new sponsor will definitely help the side in meeting the financial requirements to continue enjoying its WorldTour status for 2013 season.
There are no questions about the team’s performance in terms of UCI points as it currently holds the second overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with as many as 988 points to its credit.
Vincenzo Nibali (400 points), Peter Sagan (351 points), Moreno Moser (115 points), Ivan Basso (88 points) and Sylwester Szmyd (34 points) made the major contributions with their numerous heroic performances all through the season.
Team Sky is leading the category with 1401 UCI points while Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step (866 points), Team Katusha (773 points) and Team Orica-GreenEdge (660 points) occupies the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Paolo Zani and the Paolo Papetti are the President and the Managing Director of the Brixia Sport and they are happy to secure the deal with one of the top cycling teams in the sport.
"This sports project was created with passion and produces excellent results so it couldn’t end here," said Zani.
"Therefore I decided to take over the company to ensure this invaluable experience is put to good use".
"The most intriguing challenge will be to renew our organisation while retaining our character, particularly when it comes to selecting athletes," he said.
Team Liquigas-Cannondale has extended the contracts of most of its cyclists including Peter Sagan, Moreno Moser, Elia Viviani, Ivan Basso and Damiano Caruso.
Stefano Agostini, Maciej Bodnar, Federico Canuti, Mauro Da Dalto, Ted King, Kristijan Koren, Paolo Longo Borghini, Alan Marangoni, Maciej Paterski, Daniele Ratto, Fabio Sabatini, Juraj Sagan, Cristiano Salerno and Josè Cayetano Sarmiento will also continue
with the team through the next season.
