  1. I'm a fan of Broad too! but he should be dropped!

To put it in simple terms- England need 20 wickets to win the test match, at the moment the bowling has certainly not looked threatening enough to take 20 wickets. Broad has struggled to take wickets against South Africa and the mediocre NZ!

Harmison is a geniune wicket taker, he might not have the accuracy and control of a Broad, but he is always a threat! So seeing as Harmison is a geniune wicket taker, unfortunately for you, Broad should be dropped for Harmison!

Flintoff should bat at 6! and England should play 5 bowlers!

  2. OK Broad has been originally picked as a bowler but look at his stats since he started and look at his background.

No he is not taking wickets but neither is anyone else around him. He is however making runs and if you take Bells and KP's big hundreds out of the equasion Broad is a run getter and I believe a future number 6.

If they drop him I will be gutted. There is room for both him and Freddie in the side.

We have bigger worries about who is batting at first drop [no 3] and who is behind the stumps.

  3. All the discussion about the bowlers is to take the heat away from the real problem area, Who should bat at three and captain the side ? Vaughan is useless at both.

  4. he wont play

  5. He looks extremely jaded, and really should be left out. His bowling is starting to suffer, and I fear if he continues to play, he could be carted all over the ground. This won't help him, and will also be detrimental to England. He needs a rest.

As to what will happen: there is a rumour that if he is picked, he may bat at six. Until 4 years ago, Broad saw himself as a batsman who bowled, rather than a bowler who could bat, and given his recent batting exploits, there is a strong argument for playing him as a batsman, and as the fifth bowler.

I think this would be the wrong decision to make, and would smack of selectorial panic. Broad is certainly not yet accomplished enough as a batsman to go in at six.

I think Broad will be rested. England may recall Collingwood, and go in with four bowlers, or force Flintoff to bat at six (although he protests he is not ready).

It could be an interesting meeting between captain, coach, and anyone else who is involved in picking the final eleven (Geoff Miller has been distancing himself from that decision by saying it is up to the captain and coach).

So Broad to be kept in squad, but rested.

  6. He's really getting into the team on his batting, when he's a bowler, which isn't right. With Harmison coming back, I can see Broad being dropped, because Harmy is probably more threatening than Broad has been at the moment.

Broad's bowling average is 49.36. His batting is 41.22...

  7. It's good to see England being spoilt for choice in the bowling /all-rounder line-up.

Broad has done well batting because his technique is so good. He's just bowled too many four balls and had to contend with some unhelpful bowling conditions.

It's a very difficult decision, but he would certainly strengthen the batting at number six in a way that Flintoff, for me, has never looked capable of and even Collingwood is not managing at the moment. Panesar's place may also not be assured if the conditions favour seam bowling.

  8. Difficult one to call. If they seriously want Broad to develop as a test bowler they need to play him against quality test opposition. But the recall of harmison suggests he may well miss out. No point putting Harmy in the squad if they aren't going to play him.

  9. they shoould rest him and make their bowling stronger.. if they have to win
