Question:

Broadband Speed?

So iv had enough of slow bt broadband. I looked on virgins 'mother of all broadband' which my area doesnt support. I then tried Sky, they can give upto 16mb broadband for just £10 a month. I checked if my home number was able to have this deal. But then it says I can have this deal but 'Your phone line can support download speeds of up to 1 Mb.'

My question is - is this the problem to my slow speeds and if it is, how can I increase it?

Thanks

  1. Hi, in answer to your question the download speeds of up to 1Mbps is the reason why you are getting slow speeds. Upgrading to Sky 16Mbps will not solve this as the problem lies with the exchange that your area is connected to. The exchange will likely be owed by BT not Sky.

As to solving this problem little can be done. As it's the exchange causing the problem you will have to wait for BT to upgrade it, this could take them a long time. Some exchanges are not up for upgrading until late 2009. The only thing that can really be done is move house to a different area with a faster exchange... sorry to tell you that.

    Hope I helped.
