Broadway’s Alibi and Summer Applause potential threats for On Fire Baby and Grace Hall in the Kentucky Oaks

The annual highlight of the Derby Evening, the Grade 1, £364,000 Kentucky Oaks will be raced over a mile and a furlong on dirt on Friday, 4th May at Churchill Downs. The race that attracts an overwhelming number of audiences each year will be
raced by fourteen three-year-old fillies.
Each of the entries has an impressive profile. Even though On Fire Baby and Grace Hall are the favourite entries, the potential of Summer Applause and Broadway’s Alibi for creating an important impact cannot be side lined.
Broadway’s Alibi, Vindication’s three-year-old filly out of mare, Broadway Gold, has enjoyed unprecedented success through the last four races out of the fivecareer starts. Her winning streak of four began on 10th September at Delaware Park when
she completed the six furlong trip of a maiden special weight race in a minute and :10.36 seconds.
Annaclone and Tribal Council settled one after the other behind the winner.
Her next start was at Gulfstream Park on 15th December, 2011 in an allowance race that was held over six and a half furlong. Broadway’s Alibi was done racing in a minute and :15.76 seconds, shoving The Cat’s All That and Miss Quisqueya in the
second and third slot.
She then entered the 2012 season on 29th January in the Grade 2 Forward Gal at Gulfstream Park over seven furlongs and did not hesitate the least bit to dominate the race in a minute and :21.94 seconds. She remains unbeaten through the current
season after claiming the Grade 3 Comely on 7th April at Aqueduct.
She has all the chances of striking the 2012 hat trick through the race today.
Another entry who can prove to be threatening for the favourite duo is the three-year-old Summer Applause. Harlan’s Holiday’s filly has bagged half the races out of her six career starts. Her attempts are evenly split among the two seasons that she has raced
through.
She scored second in two races and struck success in the second outing of the new season.
She conquered the Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra on 25th February at Fair Grounds over 1 1 /16-miles by timing the distance in a minute and :43.30 seconds.
Her rankings which have not driven down the second position promise her a decent outcome today.
