Broadway’s Alibi gets the nod on Mother Goose Stakes over the Acorn Stakes
E. Paul Robsham Stables owned 3-year-old filly, Broadway’s Alibi was in such perfect form leading up to the Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on 4 May, 2012, but even in defeat in the Kentucky Oaks, Broadway’s Alibi was a game runner up to winner, Believe You Can.
Her form clearly reflected in the Kentucky Oaks, but the Todd Pletcher trained runner probably was too leggy to challenge Believe You Can in the dying stages of the race.
The Kentucky bred filly was pointed toward the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes after her runner up finish at Churchill Downs, but after her recent work, Todd Pletcher has scratched that idea.
The Vindication filly turned in four furlongs in 49.50 seconds over the Belmont Park’s fast main dirt track, but Pletcher wasn’t too impressed with the work.
“She’s normally a really good work horse. I think she just needs a little more time after the Oaks,” Pletcher said. “She ran her heart out in there, put a lot into it at a mile and an eighth. It looked like maybe 24 days is a little bit quick.”
Out of Seeking the Gold mare Broadway Gold, Broadway’s Alibi, according to trainer Todd Pletcher will most likely run in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park on 23 June, 2012.
With the shortened distance from 1 1/8 to 1 1/16 miles, Pletcher calls it a significant race for Broadway’s Alibi.
Todd Pletcher trained, In Lingerie, is also a Mother Goose prospect, despite suffering a cut to her right front leg in her victory in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes; the filly is doing well, and could be the second filly to represent Pletcher in the Mother Goose.
“It’s one of those things because of the amount of blood that was coming out it looked bad until you got it cleaned up and saw it was just a very minor cut,” said Pletcher.
Pletcher though made it clear that Mother Goose is a possibility for, In Lingerie, but looking at the Coaching Club American Oaks on 21 July at Saratoga could be a more likely start for her.
