Broadway’s Alibi posted a massive victory in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes for Todd Pletcher
It was a good day at the office for trainer Todd Pletcher, whose horse, Algorithms came from second to post an easy victory over the juvenile champion, Hansen, and on the same day, his newly turned 3-year-old filly, Broadway's Alibi, splashed home to post an even bigger victory over Say A Novena, by 16 ¾ lengths, to win the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 29 January, 2012.
E. Paul Robsham Stables’ Broadway's Alibi remained undefeated in her last three starts, in which she broke her maiden at second asking, won an allowance/optional race at Gulfstream Park and yesterday marked her stakes' debut, with a massive win over other 3-year-old fillies, at about seven furlongs on dirt.
Ridden by jockey John Velazquez, the pair enjoyed a front running victory in the Forward Gal Stakes, after being sent with odds of 6 to 5. They covered the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 21.94 seconds.
It was never going to be easy on a sloppy sealed track, but the race was over early when the Kentucky bred daughter of Vindication, out of mare Broadway Gold by Seeking the Gold, Broadway's Alibi got into her stride right from the outset, after breaking from the gate.
It was all her throughout the seven furlong distance, as she turned in brisk fractions of 22.35 seconds for the opening quarter mile, and 44.94 seconds for the half mile marker.
The newly turned filly showed no weakness even on the turn as she kept Say A Novena and Sacristy at bay, and enjoyed a seven length advantage over the two in the stretch.
John Velazquez has ridden the filly in her last 2 starts, including an allowance/claimer and yesterday in the Forward Gal Stakes.
“Last time I rode her I tried to take a bit of a hold and she didn’t like that," Velazquez noted.
The jockey added:
"She threw her head up and drifted out pretty bad. Today I decided to just let her rock-and-roll and it worked better. She still drifted a little. I guess it’s just a bad habit. She’s just so fast I wasn’t going to fight her.”
