Broadway’s Alibi ready for her New York debut in the Comely Stakes
E. Paul Robsham Stables owned Broadway’s Alibi, after her splendid win in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes is looking for her second start of the season in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes on 7 April, 2012, at Aqueduct race course, going over a distance of 1 mile
on dirt, as the races reeled in seven, 3-year-old fillies.
Todd Pletcher trained 3-year-old filly, Broadway’s Alibi in her last start got slightly stretched out in distance from six and a half to seven furlongs in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 29 January, 2012, where she defeated the likes
of Say A Novena and Sacristy in the deep stretch, who finished second and third, respectively, while Broadway’s Alibi covered the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 21.94 seconds.
The Wood Memorial undercard, the Grade 3, $250,000 Comely Stakes will be her first time racing at a mile, and for that Todd Pletcher took out the Kentucky bred daughter of Vindication, out of mare Broadway Gold by Seeking The Gold, for an easy half a mile
breeze, which she covered in 49.60 seconds.
“She’s training very well and is on schedule for the Comely,” said Pletcher of the 3-year-old.
Broadway’s Alibi will be racing in New York for the first time in her career, and her debut there could turn out to be a winning one. She started her racing career with a run in her first Maiden Special Weight race at Delaware Park going 6 furlongs, but
the filly came out of the race second best.
She broke her maiden at her second attempt, as she stayed at Delaware Park and tried the same distance on 10 September, 2011, as she covered the sprint in 1 minute and 10.36 seconds.
Broadway’s Alibi capped off her 2011 season with a win in the Gulfstream Park allowance/optional claimer at about six and a half furlongs under jockey John Velazquez.
She defeated The Cat’s All That in second and Miss Quisqueya in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 15.76 seconds. The filly has notched 3 wins out of 4 career starts so far.
