Broadway’s Alibi will miss the Mother Goose Stakes
The Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks winner, Believe You Can defeated Todd Pletcher trained, Broadway’s Alibi by the smallest margin of ¾ of a length to win the “Run for the Lilies” and  23 June Grade 1, $300,000 Mother Goose Stakes was gaining popularity
because of the rematch between the two was on the cards – but not anymore.
It is the Kentucky Oaks second place finisher, Broadway’s Alibi, who is not going to challenge the Kentucky Oaks rival in the Mother Goose Stakes, because trainer Todd Pletcher has sent the 3-year-old Vindication filly to the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital
in Lexington, Ky., for a physical examination.
According to Todd Pletcher, the filly wasn’t moving good in her workouts leading up to the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park’s big oval over a distance of 1 1/16 miles.
“She’s not quite herself,” Pletcher said Monday in his Belmont Park office. “Just want to check her out and see if there’s anything going on that we can’t see. She may come back, she may get a break, we’ll know later in the week.”
Pletcher revealed that if Broadway’s Alibi has come down with anything, and if it requires a vacation to come over whatever’s been diagnose that they will not hesitate to lay her off from racing and bring her back in the fall.
Prior to running second to Believe You Can in the Kentucky Oaks, Broadway’s Alibi won the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park over a distance of seven furlongs, and then over a mile at Aqueduct racetrack, she won the Grade 3 Comely Stakes.
With Broadway’s Alibi out of the picture, it doesn’t mean Believe You Can will have it easy, because now she has a main rival called, Contested, who is trained by Bob Baffert.
“I think she likes this track more than any track she’s been on so far this year,” said Jim Barnes, assistant to trainer Bob Baffert. “She goes over it very well. Churchill, she went over it good, but not as good as here.”
The daughter of Ghostzapper is exiting a victory in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes, where she defeated Zo Impressive in second, who is also running in the Mother Goose Stakes.
