Is it just me.. or is this another tough-tier opponent for Lesnar to face in just his 2nd fight... I mean, they don't have to put him up against no namers.. but Frank Mir I was shocked because anyone that didn't believe he could mount a comeback hasn't watched him throughout his career... and Heath is a dangerous, DANGEROUS heavyweight.. This fight could make or break Brocks UFC career

  1. Herring is a better fighter, but he's also is used to having a strength advantange.  He appears to be pretty evenly matched with Lesnar when it comes to strength.  If knees on the ground were allowed, I'd give it to Heath for sure.  Under current rules however - if Brock is able to use his NCAA wrestling back ground to stay on top and is able to make the fight go the distance, he might pull off a decision.

If I were putting money on it I'd still go with Herring though.

  2. I hate when people who know nothing try to answer.  Herring is highly under rated.  While he was in Pride he fought the best in the world and held his own in most of the matches.  Fedor and crocop once and Nog three times.  Brock is against the wall again and i think herring will be able to find an openning and either fround and pound or submit brock early in the second.  For a guy whos been in against the best the other answerers have no clue.

  3. Herring is a crafty vetreran that poses a big threat to Lesner. Dana White isnt going to skate Lesner along agaisnt nobodies, which kind of suprises me since thats what I thought he would do because Lesner isnt very skilled and has virtually no experience. I think this fight is make or break for Lesner, its not the end of the world he has alot of physical talent and good wrestling, I think if he loses he might get one more fight in the UFC, if not he's gone to the WEC. The WEC doesnt have great heavies and they could let Lesner build some skill down there before brining him back with the good fighters.

I actually think Herring should be the favorite in this fight, everyone was going nuts over Lesner after the Mir fight but I dont think he was ever remotely close to finishing Mir, sure he was throwing alot but those little punches arent going to finish a guy, I think had the fight not been stood up Mir probably would have caught him sooner. Lesner displayed no skill in that fight, he did look strong and fast but that will get you about 1:30 in the UFC as he found out.

I think if Herring is smart about this fight he should win, if he tries to bang away and lets Lesner take him down and doesnt control him Lesner might get him.

  4. Lesnar is taking huge dollars right now from the UFC's pockets. He has got to pull in BIG money for the organization, hence the big fights. I gave Mir 100% chance of victory because Lesnar was everything he wanted in an opponent. Someone to take him down and not know how to defend his submissions. Eventually Lesnar was bound to get caught. His fight with Herring is another battle for him, but like I said they have to do it. The UFC doesn't want to be seen as building up its fighters. By making Lesnar beat real talent it shows that they don't baby their fighters.

  5. find a video of herrings win years ago over tom erickson,

erickson is just as big as brock and just as good of a wrestler and had much more experience than lesnar when heath beat him.

obviously, heath isnt the fighter he once was, but he understands the blueprint for defeating one dimensional wrestlers who want only to take him down and pound him.

the ONLY guys to ever destroy herring by beating on him were cro cop and fedor and it took fedor more than ten minutes to get hering out of there.

i dont know if lesnar has ten minutes of gas in his tank.

i dont have a strong feeling about who will win this fight, but anyone who thinks lesnar will run right over him, stay tuned i think its gonna be a heck of a fight.

  6. plain and simple , heath takes it

brock wont be able to keep heath down ,

brock spends way too much energy going ballistic

it doesnt work in mma big guy.

  7. your right, it is make or break, dana white has publicly said you come to the UFC to fight, im sure no one is more upset about elite xc's bogus promoting of he who shall not be named...cause that wouldnt happen in the big leagues in the UFC

  8. I don't think Herring poses much of a challenge to Lesnar, unless he kisses him when the refs goin over instructions... Naww, but i think Lesnar will take him down pretty easily and ground n' pound him until the ref stops it. Herring isn't nearly as good at submissions off his back as Mir is.

  9. Heath Herring is considered to be a "Gateway" fighter in the UFC. He's pretty much the benchmark for entry into the top tier heavyweight class. If you beat him, you're top 10 material, if not then you go back to the minors to polish up. I think this will be a good fight and is a good matchup for Brock. Heath is NOT as good as Mir, but still very dangerous. If Lesnar has been working hard he has a good chance at a win. But Herring is no pushover.

  10. Isn't the clause he that the winner gets a shot at Nogueira?!?!  It would be fun to see Brock Lesnar do the Dan Severn deal and try to suplex his opponent the whole match then lay-n-prey for 5 minutes.  Yeah an earlier and big money fight would of been to get the #1 MMA jobber Ken Shamrock to put on a good show but its not about that its about proving that Brock Lesnar really is the next big thing.....in UFC.

  11. Herring should be easy pickings for Lesnar. You know that Lesnar has been training nothing but submission defense, so I don't think you will see a quick arm or leg bar.  Lesnar could have won the Mir fight if he would have adopted a little more controlled rage.  I think you'll see that in his fight with Herring. Brock will use the same strategy to get to the ground, but use a little more caution in his GnP.  Look for a ref stoppage around 3 minutes of the first round.

  12. Herring will win. He has fought the best in the world. This is only Brock's third fight and he has like 3 minutes of total experience. Herring will take him out. They should have put Brock against someone like Kongo.
