Brody Sutter hopeful of meeting expectations associated with Sutter name –NHL Update
Brody Sutter, a 193rd overall pick of this year’s National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Carolina Hurricanes has a lot of expectations associated with the family name “Sutter”, which has produced six previous legends who are now some of the
top ranking officials in the league.
Without a doubt, Sutter is young and has the expectations, but the biggest part of it all is that he certainly is motivated at making it big with Carolina Hurricanes if given the chance.
"(Growing up) we all pretended to be playing against each other when we were playing street hockey", Brody said, who joins his cousins Brandon and Brett on the Carolina team. "Now that there's a possibility for all of us to be playing on the big team (together),
it's pretty exciting”.
Brody Sutter is the son of Duane Sutter, who is one of six brothers of the first generation Sutter family including Brian, Darryl, Brent, Rich and Ron.
Throughout their NHL history, the Sutters have combined to have played above 4,200 games in a timeframe of 1976 to 2001.
Knowing how big the Sutter name is in the hockey world, Brody also recognises the discipline that is also necessary, especially being with a team like Carolina, which has always accommodated the Sutter family.
"Character is a pretty big thing in our family and I think Carolina values that a lot in their organization", Brody said. "They know character takes people a long way".
Many people might think that Carolina is just a fan of the Sutters, but according to Brody, they realise that they are hard working in the field of hockey.
"They know Brandon", Brody said about Carolina selecting his cousin. "They know what kind of person he is and what kind of player he is".
Brody ranked 142nd on the North American list of skaters ranked by the NHL’s Central Scouting department last year as he remained undrafted, but was successful this time around.
The 19-year-old forward played for the Lethbridge minor league team in the Western Hockey League and had 18 goals, and 24 assists with them last season.
