Question:

Broken Coax Spdif cable?

I have a monster coax spdif cable. I tripped on it, and broken the cable end. Does anybody know how i can replace the connector.

I have read the specs on coax spdif, i realize that the terminator is done on the connector. So any advice on that would be helpfully too

I don't want to buy a new one, it's a 6 meter cable, and there's nothing wrong with it. I am very comfortable with soldering, so i'll dyi the cable myself no problem.

Links would be helpful.

  1. Ideally you would use the Canare connector that fits the coax cable (Link 1). But these are a solderless connector (crimp fit) so unless you can borrow or rent the crimper ($85 to buy plus die) its hard to improvise.

Something similar to the solder type of connector at Link 2 should be locally available. They are all a bit different, so follow the directions with the connector.

3rd link is an article on assembling the connector. But basically you have to cut back the dielectric to allow the centre conductor to extend into the RCA tip then solder it in and crimp/solder the shield to the outer portion of the connector. Make sure the shield and centre conductor don't touch.
