Question:

Broken Collarbone question?

Last year I broke my collarbone playing rugby... as I play flanker the chances are I'm going to have to tackle somebody at some point with that shoulder. Only thing is that there is a lump in the collarbone now that sticks out quite prominently. Anyone got any tips on how I can get over the fear of making the first tackle or what I can do to be able to tackle as well as before with it?

  1. The lump is where the bone has healed over the bone- its called perstoneum I think. So its not usual, in fact its completly normal. As long as you have got the all clear from ur doc then you should be fine. Maybe practise against some tackling bags etc and with mates just to make sure you are Ok.If you feel any pain just stop - rebreaking bones does happen... but u should be fine! Good luck.
