Question:

Broken HP Pavilion dc6000?

I have a 'HP Pavilion dv6000'. I got it last year and it was working great! Like 3-6 months ago it stopped working. The power died and I charged it for like 2 weeks. It lit up and all but it didn't turn on. It's sounds sort of obvious that there's something wrong with the charger but is there something else that could be wrong with it?

  1. The most common laptop failure (and HP/Compaq seems especially prone to it, which is why I've stopped buying HP - are you listening, HP?) is the charger jack becoming disconnected from the motherboard.  If it was intermittent at first - wiggling it would make the power light come on - that's what it is.

DON'T wiggle it to "fix" it - you're creating sparks that could damage the motherboard, resulting in a $500 (or more) repair bill.  Look for a repair service (there are many of them in the search link below, and most of them are good) and have it fixed.  (Best is someone local so you can bring it in, but shipped is okay too - just compare prices, how long they've been in business, etc.)

  2. it sounds like a power supply problem so maybe it is the charger

  3. I think your on the right track. Get a new charger and maybe battery. Will it power up with the battery out and the power cord plugged in. If yes then the battery is dead.
