Broken TV in building hit by lightning

I have (had) a 5-year old Panasonic 27" TV. While we were on vacation, lightning struck our apartment building. Now the TV will not power on. The unit was plugged into a surge protector, and the outlet it is plugged into is working properly.

Is it worth it to call in a repairman, or is my set fried?

And if it is fried, where can I recycle it in Chicago?
