my five year old broke his arm about a week ago... he has two pins in his arm and he is wearing a cast and a sling... he has been home but my family is having a bbq today... not sure if it's okay to take him out... do you think it will be okay if he went to this event? I think he should stay home but i feel bad for him?

  1. If there's a baby pool there then I would bring a trash bag to cover the arm with.   If there is a deeper pool that would require both arms to be used for swimming around then I wouldn't let him in that type of pool.     If there is a deeper pool there then I wouldn't bring him there at all because a kid watching other kids go swimming could make for a pretty miserable day.    I know from my own kids that they are very uncomfortable watching other kids swim even if there are other toys around to play with.

You can still take him to a park to play with other kids.   He shouldn't be inside all the time.

  2. i think going to a bbq will be fine as long as he doesnt run around x

  3. Take him to the BBQ, the broken arm s bad enough.

Could suck if everyone is swimming, so take something fun for him to do.

  4. It depends on what will be going on there. If there's alot of swimming and other kids playing and doing things he can't I wouldnt take him but otherwise it might be good for him.

  5. I think it depends on his pain level. Also, explain that he'll have to sit and watch the other kids do things he may not be able to join in. Let him decide for himself, and just know in the back of your mind you may have to make an early exit with him if things go down hill!

  6. Take him out but be very careful. Although he could hardly hurt himself, 5 year olds always seem to end up in trouble one way or another! Lol!

    Have fun at the bbq!

  7. why should he stay home? he's not sick. just take him out and make sure that he is careful thats all.

  8. Why should he stay at home. Life cannot stop just because he broke his arm. As long as he doesn't get involved in to much rough and tumble, and if there's a paddling pool tie a plastic bag around his cast.

Just make sure you have painkillers on you, if it starts to hurt - and that there is somewhere he can lie down if he needs to.

  9. Go, have fun.  Just make sure he knows his boundaries with his arm.  He will have fun showing off his cast.  Boys are thrilled with their "war wounds", they wear them with pride.  He will be the hit of the BBQ.

  10. Unless the doctor said he needs to be on bed rest, then it's OK for him to go out.  Trust me, the cast is going to get dirty, nasty, and stinky.  But, kids will be kids...it's just dirt!

When you give your son a bath, use a bread bag to cover his arm :)

  11. take him out, its good for fresh air just make sure he is very careful

  12. take him out as keeping him in will make him feel down and you no your self that when your down you feel worse. just keep a eye on him and don't let him do any thing stupid. the pins will make his arm stronger then ever. so do be scared he'll be fine
