Question:

Broken driver part III . . .. this time the Medicus.?

I've posted a couple times about breaking my drivers. My tally is 5 drivers, V-Steel 3 wood, and now my Medicus driver. I used to think I was doing something wrong but now I think it's just because all these clubs are made in China and they're just junk. I do hit a lot into my net though and the clubs get a good workout (you may notice I have two nets up and the dam balls sometimes punch holes through both of them).

I've been trying to stop taking the club back past parellel so my wife's been videotaping the swing and this time I got the club breaking on video. Check it out below. My abbreviated follow through is due to the surprise of the club head breaking off:

  1. Isn't the Medicus a training aid? Are you even supposed to hit balls with it? And even if you can, it's like $40, not exactly high quality. It should be no surprise that the head broke off.

When I was younger, I had one of those cheap complete sets you buy at the sporting good store. It came with 3 woods, and I broke the heads off of all 3, and was hitting off a tee every time it happened (Every time I broke one, the next became my 'driver' lol).

As far as quality goes, you get what you pay for with golf clubs, especially drivers. Cheap and generic brands do not have the design features or build quality of name brand clubs, so you can expect them to fall apart sooner or later. If you went out and bought Ping or Titleist or Callaway driver and snapped the head off, then you'd have good reason to start looking at your swing.

  2. So, did you have a question then, or no?

  3. Man, that's a bunch of broken drivers.  Have you ever put face tape on the clubface of your driver?  The face tape will let you know exactly where the clubface is making contact with the ball.

I ask because I wonder if you're making contact towards the hosel of the club rather than the sweet spot on the clubface.  Over time, I suppose that could cause the base of the shaft to weaken.  Just a theory...
