Broken hand: Baltimore Ravens hope TE Dennis Pitta returns to action by regular season – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens are hopeful tight end Dennis Pitta returns to the squad for the regular season opening game in September after media reports confirmed the player has broken his hand and may require a surgery to repair the fracture.
Although the details around the injury incident were not available until filing of this report, the TE appears set to miss the entire preseason.
John Harbaugh, the head coach, said of the injury:
"It looks like he broke his hand. It looks like he'll have to repair it in some form or fashion."
The coach did not provide further details including timeline and circumstances around the incident, except that the player will be out of training camp and then preseason campaign.
He is expected back well in time for the regular season campaign, but this will be confirmed after scans results show the depth of the injury. The player was expecting the results later in the day, which should determine his course of recovery and rehab.
It is a rather setback for the Ravens who only had their offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie back in the squad on past Sunday. He had been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, which he cleared on Monday, a week ago.
The coach has not offered any remarks if they will seek a replacement for the player temporarily at the camp. The team at present has up to 93 players on the roster, and can bring in a player on a makeshift arrangement, and release him after training camp.
Pitta’s contribution to the team’s performance and wins remains considerable. He caught 40 passes last season. They were for total 405 yards and included three touchdowns.
The Baltimore Ravens are coming out on the field this year as a Super Bowl contender, which they had been doing for last four consecutive seasons. The team failed to reach the title game during all those four attempts. They are hopeful of defying the trend
this year and are seeking to build on strengths of the players at all positions.
