So my microwave is broken,....... =[ which sucks. And I feel like eating popcorn. Haha. So.... I have Orville Reddinbacker's (or however you spell it) kettle corn and since I don't have a microwave, can I just pour the popcorn out of the bag and put it in a pot with a lid on it?

Is it safe to do that? Please help! Thank you...=]

  1. yeah you can just get some kernels and cook it up! But don't put too much in cuz it'll pop all over the place!!!! its yummy if you put chocolate on it. :D

  2. Actually there are studies that doubt the safety of microwaved pop-corn.

    I had the same problem and used the corn that was in the bags. The grease they put in is quite nasty, it's either you want to use it or you can even wash it out.

    This is the recipe I use, and believe me, I'll never go back to microwaved popcorn!

    Perfect Popcorn Recipe

    Ingredients

        * 3 Tbsp canola, peanut or grapeseed oil (high smoke point oil)

        * 1/3 cup of high quality popcorn kernels

        * 1 3-quart covered saucepan

        * 2 Tbsp or more (to taste) of butter

        * Salt to taste

    Method

    1 Heat the oil in a 3-quart saucepan on medium high heat.

    2 Put 3 or 4 popcorn kernels into the oil and cover the pan.

    3 When the kernels pop, add the rest of the 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover, remove from heat and count 30 seconds. (Count out loud; it's fun to do with kids.) This method first heats the oil to the right temperature, then waiting 30 seconds brings all of the other kernels to a near-popping temperature so that when they are put back on the heat, they all pop at about the same time.

    4 Return the pan to the heat. The popcorn should begin popping soon, and all at once. Once the popping starts in earnest, gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth over the burner. Try to keep the lid slightly ajar to let the steam from the popcorn release (the popcorn will be drier and crisper). Once the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove the pan from the heat, remove the lid, and dump the popcorn immediately into a wide bowl.

    With this technique, nearly all of the kernels pop (I counted 4 unpopped kernels in my last batch), and nothing burns.

    5 If you are adding butter, you can easily melt it by placing the butter in the now empty, but hot pan.

    6 Salt to taste.

    Makes 2 quarts, a nice amount for two people, or for one hungry one.

  3. yes, I've done that before. you just have to watch that it doesn't  burn and constantly shake the pan.

  4. i dunnoo...i would probably go buy some straight up kernels and do it the old fashioned way. tastes better anyways

  5. Try putting it in a pot with some cooking oil (enough to cover the bottom of the pot, but not too much (it'll ruin the popcorn)). The worst thing that can happen is you burning the popcorn :P

    This has always worked for me :) (although i have heard someone whining about this messing up the pot or something, but i've never noticed any difference)

    Just be sure not to use too much at a time :)

  6. there's something freaky with the texture when you do that. but keep an eye on it. it's not particularly dangerous.

  7. yes you can do that then melt some butter and drizzle over it i have done popcorn that way many of times

  8. I wouldn't use the whole bag! It might push the lid off and make a huge mess!

  9. no don't do that. instead just cook it on top of the stove. read the directions of the container of kernels (it can be Orville Reddinbacker) and it healthier!!

  10. go out buy the stuff to make it the old fashion way on the stove or go buy a bag oof wise popcorn

  11. Should be able to, corn is corn and when heated it turns into popcorn.

  12. 2 tablespoons butter/margarine heat on medium heat till melted

    add 2 cups popcorn, pinch of salt, put a lid on, shake, and continue to shake till corn is popped.
