Broken tail in cat- can it be saved?

Have discovered pussycat here (tabby) has a tail injury. Hanging totally lifeless from base and he is swollen and tender in that area. Am devastated as youngest child is horrible and I suspect she has yanked his tail, there's no other way it could have happened. Vet not open for a few hours. Please help, is there any chance the tail can be saved?

  1. It's possible it can be saved, but if not, who cares?  He doesn't need it.  The cat is in terrible pain and that is the main thing.  If your vet isn't open yet, then you need to find one that is.  Don't make your cat suffer, look up vets in the phone book.  And next time, please don't leave your child alone with kitty.

  2. Only a vet will be able to tell you if his tail can be saved.

I did have this happen to a young kitten once and the vet felt that he had received a good bite from another cat.  The tail was hanging at an odd angle and he was in obvious pain.  The tail was not broken and he was placed on antibiotics.  He did not lose his tail and recovered quite quickly.  However, the tail was always at a bit of an angle for the rest of his life.

    Good luck!

  3. my advice would be to amputate the tail

  4. call vet when they open, bring kitty in.

whether it can be saved or not, the cat needs care.

if the vet suspects the child did it, find cat a new home.

i would adopt a mean kitty. one the shelter does not recommend for childern. let him  loose on the kid.

kid will need stitches, but he will learn not to to be mean to cats.
