If you place a Sell limit that is "Good for the Day," but it does not get filled because the price doesn't exceed your limit, do you pay a commission fee? I use E*TRADE as my online broker.

  1. Commissions are charged on orders that are executed,

Open orders do not incur a commissions nor do orders that were canceled,

  2. NO

Not until the transaction is made do you pay.

If it was 'Good for the day" and didn't trigger you have no commission due.

  3. There is no fee or commission to place a trade to buy or sell. The commission is only charged id the trade is "executed."
