Broncos finally getting healthier
The Denver Broncos are finally getting some good news on the injury front as running back Correll Buckhalter and All-Pro left tackle Ryan Clady returned to practice with the team. Buckhalter hurt his back on the first day of training camp and Clady blew out his left knee in a pick-up game of basketball this off-season.
The Broncos have been battling injury problems all training camp. They lost one of the league’s best pass-rushers in Elvis Dumervil possibly for the whole season and running back Knowshon Moreno was hurt on the first day of camp as well.
The Broncos hope that Clady will be 100% and ready to go in the team’s first regular season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"This isn't one of those things where he's going to go out there in a hat and kind of go through a walk-through," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said. "He'll be out there, and we're going to go ahead and bring him along just like you would any player that's coming off of an injury where he's been away for a period of time."
There’s no doubting Clay’s value to the Broncos offence. With Brandon Marshall now gone, Clady is their best offensive player and he’s needed to guide the Broncos’ running game and protect Kyle Orton. The Broncos offensive line features two rookies and the team’s backfield is filled with backups after several injuries.
Moreno is still out since suffering a hamstring injury on August 1st. Lendale White is set to return soon after injuring his ankle just days after signing with the Broncos. White was traded by the Tennessee Titans to the Seattle Seahawks on draft day. The Seahawks released him only one month later, when White violated the league’s substance abuse policy. White is suspended for the first four games of the regular season.
"We have to get healthy, get back on the field and make some plays," White said. "Every offence that I've ever been a part of, if the run goes, the offence goes really well."
The Broncos next pre-season game is Sunday night when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
