Bronson Arroyo gets a three year left from the Reds
Bronson Arroyo has arguably been one of the best pitchers in Cincinnati Reds to date. His pitching performance has helped the National League side clinch an important Central division and a spot in the playoffs. Even though the
ball club did not last long in the playoffs, it did get into the top four spot on its own merits. It is only likely to see Arroyo do the Reds a great service for numerous years to come. The fact that Bronson has done so much has called on fans to back the
player up tremendously, in the baseball arena. After all, Major League Baseball would never be complete without its share of contract signings and trades.
For Arroyo, the matter has almost been resolved. The issue at the helm was his contract signing and the veteran sees himself taking the extra pitching duties into the following three years after 2011. His current option of 2011
was approved on Thursday. The deal was worth and $11.5 million and now the Reds see this as an opportunity to sign an extension by the end of the week. The new deal could be worth $36 to $39 million. There will be three extra years added to the base and the
amount will be compensated between the years as the season ends.
On Monday, Bronson’s agent, Terry Bross came out to say, “There have been discussions, but I wouldn't say I'm optimistic or pessimistic. It'd be premature to comment that anything is imminent or not imminent.”
Cincinnati’s General Manager, Walt Jocketty revealed last month that a plan was in the works for the veteran to be signed on soon. He then went on to say on Wednesday that, “We'll certainly continue to work on doing a multi-year
extension with him. I don't want to go into the season negotiating. We'll try to (get it done) before the start of the season.”
Arroyo’s season performance was a booming rocket, to say the least. He produced a consistent performance of 17 wins and 10 losses in 33 game starts. Furthermore, he excelled with a 3.88 Earning Runs Average. With 121 strikeouts,
his ranking in the National League rose to 4th and it just summarizes his worth in the realm of baseball. This move may be considered wise from the perspective of a manager who wants to see consistency in the next few years.
