Bronson Arroyo pens contract extension to 2013
The Cincinnati Reds made progress in the free agency today when they signed on Bronson Arroyo with a contract extension. The new deal will see the ball player make headway through the 2013 campaign. The 3-year deal is estimated to be worth $35 million and
it will see the two sides go hand in hand, in the coming season when the action picks off again in April.
The signing was made in the ‘Redsfest’ event which the ballclub tends to hold each year. The fans were ecstatic about the news and many were there to cheer on as Cincinnati introduced the player to the rest of the roster. The event which is scheduled for
two days at the Duke Energy Convention Centre will end today.
Arroyo made a few comments on the move before he took the stage. He said, “I just wanted the opportunity to stay on this ballclub for the next few years. We've been running uphill for the last four years and finally got to the top of the mountain. We saw
the finish line at least and made the playoffs. We'll hopefully have more good seasons and make a run at it.”
The A class pitcher had his contract remade after his option was picked up by the club. His physical exam had been cleared in the morning before the announcement came through in the latter hours of the day. Arroyo was part of the Reds drive to the top in
the previous season. His deliveries helped Cincinnati clinch the title in the National League Central.
Arroyo was more than effective in the run to the playoffs as he collected an Earning Runs Average of 3.88 in 33 game starts. Furthermore, he established himself as a top class ball thrower, swinging in 17 wins while losing out on 10. He’s been part of the
roster for the last 5 seasons and it is believed he can deliver the much needed push for the club to prosper in the future.
Bronson expressed his love for the side by saying, “I enjoy everything about the place. I enjoy the places I go, the restaurants I eat at and my teammates, the ballpark and the fans. I'd sign a five-year extension if they let me, but I'm getting old so they're
only giving me three. I'm kind of a routine freak. Knowing the people, the writers and everybody else, I don't like change. I want to stick around.”
