Bronte Barratt dominates Women’s 200m freestyle semi-final– EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Bronte Barratt of St Peters Western Swim Club dominated the Women’s 200m freestyle semi-final on day three of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Saturday, March 17.
The 23-year-old Barratt upset his competitors by snaring top position in the second round of four-lap freestyle event. With her alluring efforts, she remained prominently ahead of her challengers and ended her race by posting a time of 1 minute and 56.88
seconds.
She remained 0.69 seconds ahead of her team-member, Stephanie Rice, who entered the final round by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 57.57 seconds. The 23-year-old Rice remained slightly ahead of her following swimmer, Kylie Palmer of Chandler,
who captured third position of the discipline by posting 1 minute and 57.75 seconds.
Next was the Men’s 200m freestyle final, where Thomas Fraser-Holmes elevated his efforts and notched gold medal of the discipline by hitting the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 46.88 seconds. He was followed by Kenrick Monk of St Peters Western Swim
Club, who stayed 0.28 seconds behind him and settled on the finishing end for silver medal by posting 1 minute and 47.16 seconds.
The 24-year-old Monk was trailed by David McKeon of Wests Illawarra, who stayed 0.39 seconds slower and surfaced on the podium for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 47.55 seconds.
In the meantime, Leiston Pickett of Southport Olympic Swimming Club spoiled the party of her opponents as she earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke. The 20-year-old Pickett posted 1 minute and 06.88 seconds for gold medal of the double lap discipline.
Her scintillating effort remained 0.76 seconds ahead of Leisel Jones of Unattached, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by reporting 1 minute and 07.64 seconds. Sarah Katsoulis earned bronze medal of the discipline by clocking 1 minute
and 08.11 seconds.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged forceful efforts of all participants while the podium finishers collected accolades and medals for their gruelling forms at the medal ceremony of the championship.
