Bronte Barratt remains strong in Women’s 200m freestyle semi-finals – 2012 London Olympic Games
Australian star, Bronte Barratt sent a threatening message to her challengers, as she remained strong in the semi-finals of Women’s 200m freestyle on day three of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatic Centre on Monday, July
30.
The 23-year-old Barratt continued her stupendous efforts in the second round of the four-lap discipline and made her way to the finishing blockade as top contender for the crown of the discipline.
With her relentless efforts, she remained one arm-stroke ahead of her following swimmer, Allison Schmitt of USA and touched the wall with a fastest qualification effort of 1 minute and 56.08 seconds.
With her top rated effort, she enjoyed a lead of 0.07 seconds over Schmitt, who qualified into the playoff as second best swimmer by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 56.15 seconds.
Similarly, the American swimmer remained just an inch ahead of her following swimmer, Camille Muffat of France, who transpired on the finishing blockade as third best finisher with the timing of 1 minute and 56.18 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Federica Pellegrini of Italy, who suffered a loss of 0.49 seconds from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 56.67 seconds.
Pellegrini was chased by Veronika Popova of Russian Federation, who was only 0.17 seconds slower and tapped the finishing blockade for fifth position with an effort of 1 minute and 56.84 seconds.
Popova was followed by Caitlin McClatchey of Great Britain, who was nearly half a second behind and ended her race in sixth best place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 57.33 seconds.
McClatchey was trailed by Kylie Palmer of Australia, who occupied seventh finest spot to enter the playoff by reporting a time of 1 minute and 57.44 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Missy Franklin of USA, who tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.57 seconds.
Barratt was happy with her performance and stated that she would try to continue the same in the final round.
