Bronte Campbell wins Women’s 50m freestyle semi-final – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships ended with the scintillating swims of Australia’s swimmer Bronte Campbell and Russia’s Oleg Ultekhin in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 20. The final session of the meet conducted Women’50m freestyle and
Men’s 50m breast-stroke semi-finals.
At the beginning, Campbell won Women’s 50m freestyle semi-final heat with a winning time of 25.28 seconds. Lia Neal of United States was placed second with a matchless time of 25.39 seconds, while Landeghem Van of Canada finished third in a time of 25.58
seconds. Nadiya Koba of Ukraine was placed fourth with a mark of 25.60 seconds, while Kristen Vredeveld of United States rounded out the top five in a time of 25.72 seconds.
In the corresponding splash, Beryl Gastaldello of France was placed sixth with a mark of 25.92 seconds and Carolina Bergamaschi of Brazil settled seventh in a time of 26.08 seconds. Japan’s Mao Kawakami wound up eighth with a time of 26.12 seconds. Italy’s
Ylenia Sciarrini was placed ninth in a time of 26.21 seconds, while Brianna Throssell of Australia finished tenth in 26.42 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 50m breast-stroke semi-final heat was captured by Oleg Utekhin of Russia with a winning time of 28.43 seconds and Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan wound up second with a brilliant mark of 28.53 seconds. Panagiotis Samilidis of Greece was placed
third in a time of 28.61 seconds, while Harry Craig Benson of Great Britain earned fourth place honours with a mark of 28.72 seconds. Angelito Cassandra of Brazil settled fifth in a time of 28.76 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, Nicolas Fink of United States wound up sixth with a mark of 28.79 seconds and Bastian Vollmer of Germany settled seventh in a time of 28.90 seconds. Kazakhstan’s Roman Trussov earned eighth position in 29.09 seconds, while Russia’s
Anton Tischenko was placed ninth in 29.11 seconds. Last, but not the least, Czech Republic’s Jakub Sevcik finished tenth as he touched the finishing wall and ended his swim in a time of 29.13 seconds.
