Brook Lopez acknowledges the faith shown by Brooklyn Nets to retain him – NBA Update
Ever since the free agency began, there had been rumours that the Brooklyn Nets were inclined to trade Brook Lopez to Orlando Magic in exchange for Dwight Howard. However, after extensive efforts to appease the Magic front office,
the Nets management got frustrated and chose to sign Lopez last week, agreeing to a four year deal worth $60 million.
Even though the trade rumours are due again next year as Lopez becomes eligible for a possible move on January 15 (as per a clause in his contract), however at the moment, the centre is very happy at the fact that the Nets showed
faith in him. He even went to hint towards ending his career in Brooklyn.
"The Nets are the only place I want to be," said Lopez, "I want to be a Net for my entire career."
Discussing all the speculations revolving around him being involved in a whole lot of scenarios for a Howard trade, Lopez said that he really does not concentrate on such issues or rumours;
"I don't read a lot of stuff you guys write," Lopez said. "I read a lot of comic books and they don't mention Dwight Howard much."
He believes that the Nets have shown a lot of faith in him and even though he has no assurance of being with Brooklyn after January, he still wants to do his best for the team.
“They signed me, and like Avery said, that's a very good sign of faith from them," Lopez
He was drafted by the Nets in 2008 as the 10th overall selection and since his arrival; Lopez has made a name for due to his scoring exploits. He held an average of 17.4 points per game over the five seasons he has had
with the Nets. The only problem he faces is his rebounding figures which have seen a constant demise in the past season two seasons.
At the moment, Lopez is spending time recovering from a broken foot, which limited him to only five games last season. The centre is well aware that he may not be a complete 100% fit to play but come the start of the season he
vowed to give his all.
