Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson confident Brooklyn Nets are strong enough to win a NBA Championship next season
Brooklyn Nets have been making some big time moves over the summer in order to become title contenders in their very first season. Two of the major moves made during the summer have been the trade of Joe Johnson and the re-signing of Brook Lopez and both these players feel that the Nets have a real shot at winning an NBA Championship next season.
In recent interview to Sports Illustrated, Johnson said that the team has all the resources and the doubt over the team chemistry will be answered quickly;
“That’s what we are shooting for — the ring. There’s no need to sell ourselves short. You talk about gelling and figuring it out, and I think we have the perfect pieces: a great point guard, a great centre. I don’t think any of our positions are the same or overlap at all.” – Johnson
Lopez who is attending and NBA event in the Philippines had a similar opinion;
“Obviously our main goal is no question the NBA championship. I think it is realistic for us. We’re already a good playoff team so with the addition of other pieces, we can target the ring,” said Lopez.
The Nets indeed have a formidable roster and their management has made some big time moves over the summer. Along with these two, Gerald Wallace and Deron Williams have been re-signed which does give them a good foundation. Other players present on the roster include the likes of Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Reggie Evans, Jerry Stackhouse and Mirza Teletovic – all strong role players.
However there is still a long way to go before they can call themselves genuine title contenders and challenge the likes of Miami Heat and Boston Celtics in the East. The Nets might have a very good offensive line up but titles are not won by just playing offence. Their defensive is what which will define their title aspirations and where they stand in NBA in the years to come.
Having self belief though is good for starter and the Nets seem confident that they are going to achieve success at a very rapid pace.
