Brooke Bennett claims Women’s 1500m freestyle gold medal – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Brooke Bennett of BLU claimed gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle in the 30-34 year old age group on primary day of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
The 32-year-old Bennett stunned the arena with her tremendous pace in the 1500m discipline. She went on a rampage in the thirty-lap discipline and cemented her place on the top of podium for gold medal.
With her fascinating start and utter determination, she enjoyed a commendable lead over her strongest challenger and transpired on the finishing blockade with the timing of 17 minutes and 54.28 seconds.
Her title winning effort remained nearly forty-seven seconds slower from the USMS National record of 17 minutes and 07.54 seconds, held by Dawn Heckman during 2010.
She also remained almost twenty-nine seconds behind the world mark of 17 minutes and 25.81 seconds, set by Heidi George of USA in 2009.
Gold medallist was trailed by Andrea M Cardy of RMST, who stayed nearly 15 metres apart and ensured her second place on the medal rostrum by producing an effort of 21 minutes and 05.20 seconds.
Silver medallist was chased by Marc Catallo-Madruga of CMS, who was 4.78 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 21 minutes and 09.98 seconds for bronze medal.
Third position holder of the discipline was traced by Elizabeth A Hefley of NEBR, who stayed almost seventeen seconds apart finished fourth in the event.
The 31-year-old Hefley stayed considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 21 minutes and 26.94 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Kathleen J Stutz of TPIT, who struggled hard to improve her position but failed to overpower Hefley’s dominating form in the concluding rounds of the race.
Stutz remained nearly three minutes slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 24 minutes and 48.31 seconds.
Bennett expressed happiness over her victory in the 1500m discipline and stated her desire of achieving the same at the upcoming tournaments.
