Brooke Mary Rose Manera stuns Kate Gourdie in Girl’s Singles battle at 2012 West Coast U19
Brooke Mary Rose Manera, an upcoming player of New Zealand, showed her inspiring skills in the court and stunned her higher ranked team-mate Kate Gourdie in Girl’s Singles battle at the 2012 West Coast U19 on Saturday, June 23, in New Zealand.
Brooke Mary, who was un-seeded player in the draw, delivered a staggering performance and overpowered Kate who was the second seeded shuttler in Girl’s Singles main draw of the tournament.
The talented Brooke Mary found an incredible start when she grabbed opening game with a huge margin but lost the second game with a tight score. However, she again showed her brilliance in the decider and won the battle in rubber games.
In the meanwhile, Kate did not expect such a shocking treatment from her lower ranked compatriot in the opening game. However, she managed to win the following game and levelled the match. But again she could not do much against her rival in the concluding
points of final set and lost the battle with a decent margin.
Brooke Mary started her run in the court in a thrashing manner as she took no time in setting up a huge difference on the score board as her opponent could not match the pace of rallies.
Until the one-minute interval, Brooke Mary took a wonderful lead without facing any tough resistance from her rival.
After the break, the lower ranked Brooke Mary continued her striking run in the court and grabbed the game with a huge margin of 21-12.
In the second set, Kate became aggressive and matched the pace of rallies until the end of first half when both ladies were close on the score board.
After the interval, the score progressed in a narrow fashion as no one could take a reasonable lead until the ending points when Brooke Mary committed unforced errors and lost the set with a decent score of 19-21.
In the deciding game, both girls played at their best speed in the opening half but it was Brooke Mary who took over the control in the concluding half and managed to win the battle with a reasonable 21-17 score on the board.
The impressive Brooke Mary showed her class and wrapped up victory against the second seeded Kate in three games with an interesting score of 21-12, 19-21 and 21-17.
