Brooke Pancake finishes outside top 10 at Daytona Beach Invitational 2012
American Brooke Pancake, who was expected to tear apart her rivals at the Daytona Beach Invitational 2012, could not finish in the top 10, as she shot an overall 210 to tie for the 11th position on the leaderboard.
Pancake was among the big names in the Symetra Tour line-up, but appeared to be in a tight spot when it came to making calculated strokes in the last two rounds.
The three-round tournament was staged at the prestigious Daytona Beach, Florida, United States, with the appearance of 2010 champion Kristie Smith.
The defending champion Haru Nomura of Japan gave a miss to the tournament, providing other contenders a bit of room to show their skills in the 2012 event, but the roster featured the 2010 champion Kristie Smith of Australia.
Smith, who had vowed to do her best, came crashing down after she made a sloppy start that her card a 74 in the first round on Friday.
Although most of the top-ranked Symetra Tour contenders fought hard to maintain their grip on the match, lesser-known players put their best feet forward and gained several positions in the top 50.
Thanks to her unmatched swing skills and huge experience in amateur golf, Pancake started the tournament in an impressive style and grabbed a second position after shooting a 67 in the opening round.
However, the American star hurt her hard-earned position by scoring a 72 and 71 in the second and third round.
The last round saw Pancake card a bogey on the first hole, which proved fatal for her overall position. She, however, regained her momentum after scoring three birdies on the front nine.
I’m trying to play my game and try to put myself in a situation where I know what I can work on for second stage of Q School. So going at it with the best mentality and if I need to work on things, I have a week to do it,” Pancake said at the end of the first round.
The golfing sensation said that she was quite thrilled after showing a solid performance in the first round. “It’s really nice to finish that way. I looked at my grandfather and said ‘I’m going for it Jimbo,’ hitting the green”.
