Brooke Pancake turns pro, former Baylor golf star heads to the U.S. Women’s Open
Brooke Pancake, the top amateur from the Alabama, has turned professional. Pancake is all set to play in the U. S. Women’s Open 2012. The event will take place at the famous Blackwolf Run Golf Club, in Kohler, Wis.
Pancake’s amateur career has been stellar, to say the least. Her latest honour came when she was the individual runner-up of the 2012 NCAA.
She finished with73.08, the second highest scoring average in the history of the University of Alabama. She posted an amazing 72.52 stroke average in 2011-2012.
Alabama coach Mic Potter was very vocal in praising Pancake. He said, “She's the most decorated player we've ever had. Especially if you put the academics with the athletics, it's not even close. She may not have the career scoring average, but when you
add in academics, she's tops”.
This amazing amateur career now has a perfect finish. Pancake will play her first pro event alongside the top women players of the world.
This is a fitting start for Pancake, who is known for her devotion to golf and concentration on the golf course.
The personal aspect of the pro debut cannot be ignored. This is a very emotional moment for Pancake. She was very close to her father and was devastated after his demise. However, she picked up the pieces and moved on.
Commenting on her coping up with the tragedy, she said, “It was one of those things that you had to face”. She faced the tragedy and went on to become a highly decorated player.
It is amazing that Pancake has managed to stay on top of her studies. Not many school athletes manage to balance their studies and usually finish their degrees in the latter half of the class. Not Pancake, she finished her marketing degree with a perfect
4.00 GPA.
The U.S. Open is a perfect opportunity for Pancake to kick start her pro career. She is indeed lucky that her first pro event is also the most prestigious event on the international golf calendar.
Many commentators are hopeful that Pancake will manage to secure a great position on the leaderboard at the end of the event.
