Brooke Schulte named as the Player of the Year – Volleyball News
The sophomore outside hitter (OH), Brooke Schulte of Mater Dei Knights High School recently became the centre of attention as she was named the Belleville News-Democrat's Class 3A-4A Volleyball Player of the Year.
She had tough competition with players of other teams, who were nominated for the same honour. However, Schulte got lucky and settled for the prestigious award. It was just a great year for Knights and Schulte also benefitted from the opportunity. She contributed
to the overall success of her team on and off the court. The Knights finished the regular season with an overall record of 29-7 and played 7 post-season matches, where they remained undefeated.
Schulte played an active role in leading Knights to great success and emerged as the top hitter in her team with 311 kills and 73 service aces. She is not only regarded as an excellent hitter but she also proved her efforts as an all-around player and did
exceptionally well in other fields of play. She totalled 112 blocks and had 188 digs for Knights. Overall, she worked out great progress and most essentially deserved the honour of being named the Player of the Year.
The Head Coach of Mater Dei, Chad Rakers, praised the incredible effort of Schulte. In his view, Schulte has become a quite a definition for other players to learn from her amazing skills.
He said, “She never fears the moment. I keep telling people that athletes that don't fear the moment, that don't feel the pressure are so few and far between. Even when she was a freshman playing on varsity, she never feared the moment. She doesn't look
ahead to the glory, she doesn't fear failure. It's one of those things that are so rare. When you have a kid like that, you better cherish it.”
Schulte expressed much delight to receive the honour but she stunned the volleyball fans with her statement that she won’t be playing volleyball in college. After spending a successful year with the Knights, she has decided to join Basketball team at De
Paul University.
Nevertheless, she explained that recently she watched the final showdown of NCAA Tournament between UCLA and Illinois, where most of the girls were 6 feet tall. That was what made her conscious to opt for basketball instead of volleyball. Schulte is 5-10”
and considers herself more effective as basketball player in future.
Everyone has the right to make the right choice for them. She will indeed prove her skills on the basketball court but she will surely be remembered as a wonderful volleyball player.
