Brooklyn Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov to meet with Deron Williams in Turkey – NBA News
The Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov will meet with team General Manager Billy King and All star point guard Deron Williams in Turkey, it has been reported. All three are in Turkey at the moment to follow the EuroLeague Final Four.
King had earlier said that he was going to Turkey to meet with Bogan Bogdanovic, who is a second round pick of the Nets. Bogdanovic is currently paying for Turkish club Fenerbahce Ulker, but the Nets hold the rights to the 23 year old. However as co-incidentally as it may appear, he will now join Prokhorov in convincing the All-Star guard to stay at the Nets.
Next season is looking to be a promising one for the Nets. The owners have put in a great deal of money into the club and they will shift to their new home in Brooklyn next season, where a new arena awaits. Now the Nets are looking to strengthen their roster and if they can get Deron Williams to stay with them, it would be a huge plus and they can build a strong team around him.
Williams will be one of the hottest properties on the market come summer time. He has had a phenomenal season, averaging 21 points and 8.7 assists per game. The guard, 28, is however interested to be looking to move to a championship contending team. If he resigns with the Nets, he can nearly $ 30 million more than with any other team, but money doesn’t seem to be a priority for Williams at this stage of his career.
There are rumours that Williams is looking to move to Dallas Mavericks, where he can form a great combination with Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks will be on the lookout for a new guard to take over the position from Jason Kidd who is 39 now. Deron Williams would be an excellent fit into the Dallas squad and his addition would make the Mavericks a team to watch out for in the next season.
Prokhorov is the past owner of the basketball club CSKA Moscow, which is playing in the final four. Former Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko is now their star player. The Russian billionaire also intends to sign him to the Nets as well for the next season. Although Kirilenko has indicated that his first priority is still Utah Jazz, but given the relationship between Prokhorov and Kirilenko, it is very likely that this deal will go through.
Also, Kirilenko and Williams have remained team mates in Utah, and the move might also make Williams reconsider his decision about leaving the Nets.
The Nets team and owner are making big moves as they prepare for their next season, which will be their first as the Brooklyn Nets. If all their plans go through, we will be looking at a very strong Nets roster next season, one that will have playoff material written all over them.
