Brooklyn Nets beat the Sacramento Kings 99-90; claim fifth win in a row: NBA Recap
The Brooklyn Nets won their fifth game in a row, beating Sacramento Kings 99-90 here at the Sleep Train Arena on Sunday night. The Nets went 6-2 with this win, their best start to the season since 2002-2003 in which they made the NBA finals.
Deron Williams had a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists, Andray Blatche came off the bench to score the team high 22 points while Marshon Brooks also came off the bench to add 14 points for the Nets, he shot 5 out of 6 from the floor. Gerald Wallace made an appearance for the Nets after missing the last 5 games, but could only manage 4 points and 3 assists on the night.
DeMarcus Cousins was red hot as he led the Sacramento Kings with 29 points and 7 rebounds while Tyreke Evans posted 21 points and 7 rebounds. The Kings still lost their fifth game in a row. The Nets bench outscored the Kings bench 52-26.
The game started pretty evenly as the score was tied at two, four, six and eight before a rapid 10-0 burst by the Kings put them up at 16-8. An Evans dunk shot put the Kings up 18-11 before the Nets went for a 6-0 run to make it a one point game at 17-18. The exchange of deuces by both teams near the end of the period had the Nets leading by 21-20.
Four early points in the second period transferred the lead back to the Kings on 24-21 but Andray Blatche scored 6 straight points for the Nets to put them ahead again. Later on, Marcus Thornton sank a three pointer for the Kings that left them trailing 34-35. It was still a one point game at 40-41 for the Kings before the Nets went on rampage with a 10 for none run that put them ahead 51-40. They pushed their lead to 54-42 by the end of the period.
Kings gave a visibly improved performance in the third period as they outscored the Nets by three, but it was not going to be enough on the night. Sacramento collected the first five points of the second half and a John Salmons layup later in the period reduced the deficit down to 52-58. A 6-0 run by the Kings then made it a two point game on 65-67, but the Nets replied with a 7-0 run that put them up 74-65, going into the final quarter.
A Thornton free throw early in the period closed the gap and left the Kings trailing by 74-76. But the Nets responded with an 8-0 burst that opened up a solid 10 point lead for them, with about 5 minutes on the regulation.
Cousins tried his best as he scored 11 of his 29 points in the final period but he could not carry the Kings to a win tonight. A flurry of free throws for the Nets in the final minute helped them win the game 99-90.
