Brooklyn Nets cruise pass Cleveland Cavaliers despite career nights from Irving and Varejao: NBA Recap
Deron Williams scored 26 points and dished out 10 assists as the Brooklyn Nets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-101 here at Barclays Center on Tuesday night. Brook Lopez added 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds
while Joe Johnson scored 16 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for the Nets.
Anderson Varejao gathered a career high 35 points and grabbed as many as 18 rebounds while Kyrie Irving also scored a career high 34 points and dished out 8 assists but it was not enough to carry the Cavaliers
in the scoring frenzy. Brooklyn built up a 20 point lead for the third game in a row at home.
Cavaliers started the game going 5-0 up before Nets opened their account with a 7 nil run which included six points by Deron Williams. Minutes later, a Brook Lopez layup tied the score at 14 all. Both teams traded
lead back and forth as the score was tied 10 times in the first period. Cleveland led the Nets 30-29 by the end of the first quarter.
An Andray Blatche free throw tied the score on 30 at the beginning of the second period. It was the last time the score was all square in the game as Nets kicked off an 11-0 run to jump to 40-30. Later on, a
Kyrie Irving turnaround jump shot cut the deficit to 34-42 before the Nets embarked on rampage with an 18-4 burst to go up 60-38. They maintained this 22 point advantage till the end of the period as they went into halftime leading 64-42.
The third period started hot. An early exchange of deuces on both ends left the Nets leading 68-48. The Nets were enjoying a solid 24 point lead at 77-53 seven minutes into the quarter, before Cavaliers started
slashing the deficit and a jumper by Alonzo Gee had them trailing 64-81.

Nets bounced back though and were ahead by 85-66 with just 1:30 minutes to go when the Cavs sprung into action and finished the quarter with a 9 nil spurt to cut the Nets advantage to 75-85.
Whatever hopes the Cavaliers had after slashing the deficit in the last period vanished soon enough when the Nets went ahead 96-80 early in the period. Varejao tried his best as he fired three back to back layups
for the Cavs to get them to 92-105, but it was too much to ask from the two lone fighters. The Nets maintained this 13 point advantage till the end to win the game by 114-101.
