Brooklyn Nets drop the Orlando Magic 98-86: NBA Recap
Gerald Wallace got hot from the three point range as Brooklyn Nets beat the Orlando Magic 98-86 on the road, Friday night. The Nets have now improved their record to 11-4; their best ever start to a season after 15 games.
Joe Johnson scored the night high 22 points, going 10 out of 16 from the floor. Gerald Wallace posted scored 20 points, as he shot 5 of 6 from the three point range, while Andray Blatche had 14 points and 9 rebounds under his belt
for the Nets, who have won their fifth game in a row.
Orlando Magic were paced by Glen Davis, who collected the team high 16 points, E’Twaun Moore had 13 while Andrew Nicholson came off the bench to chip in with 12 points.
The Nets shot 55 percent (11-20) from behind the arc where as Magic shot a partly 9.1 percent (1-11) from the three point range.
“Game-plan wise, we didn't anticipate Gerald Wallace going 5-for-6 from three. ... Gerald made shots, and (it was) a big difference in the game." Magic coach Jacque Vaughn on Gerald Wallace exploits from distance.
After a cold start to the game, the score was tied on 9 after 5:30 minutes of play. Wallace nailed a three pointer to put the Nets up 15-11 before both teams got hot and a quick exchange of deuces left the Brooklyn leading on 21-17.
The Nets took this four point advantage into the second period as they closed the quarter leading by 25-21.
The home side came back immediately and tied the score on 27 early in the second period. C.J. Watson sank a three pointer to put the Nets up 32-27 but the Magic were close on their heels and slashed the deficit down to 31-32 after
a Josh McRoberts layup. It was close throughout the rest of the quarter and the Nets were up 45-44 by the end of the period.
It was all Nets in the third period as Gerald Wallace started heating up and knocked down 4 three pointers. The score was tied on 48 early in the quarter before the Nets started pulling ahead and Deron Williams connected one from
downtown to put them up 72-60. The Magic could not find an answer to the Nets shooting from distance and were trailing 65-76 by the end of the period.
The Nets kept a comfortable distance between themselves and Magic in the fourth period and a Watson shot from behind the arc pushed their lead to 81-69. Brooklyn cruised to victory and extended their lead to 98-79 with 2:05 left
on the regulation. The Magic scored the final 7 points of the game for face saving as they went down 86-98 to the Nets eventually.
