Brooklyn Nets hand Charlotte Bobcats their 17th straight defeat: NBA Recap
Charlotte Bobcats came into this game looking to end their 16-game skid, but all eyes were on Brooklyn Nets, who were playing their first game under interim coach P.J. Carlesimo. The Nets defeated the Bobcats 97-81 in front of
the home crowd on Friday night to hand the struggling Bobcats their 17th straight defeat.
Brook Lopez posted a double-double; he finished off with 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Nets. Deron Williams also came out of his mini slump and posted 19 points, going 3 of 5 from the three point land while Joe Johnson had
16 points.
“It's hard to be confident when you're not enjoying success. So I think you have to play your way out of it, shoot your way out of it and I thought we did that tonight," Carlesimo said.
Keith Bogans sank a three pointer at the start of the game and Lopez tipped one in shortly to put the Nets up 5-0 against the Bobcats, who never led throughout the game. A 9 nil spurt pushed the Nets' lead to 19-7 with 5:14 to
go in the first quarter. Brooklyn kept on pulling ahead and Williams scored two from the foul line to have the Nets leading 33-15 by the end of the period.
The second quarter was quite even with both teams scoring an equal number of points; the Nets were leading 56-38 at halftime.
The Nets outscored the Bobcats 24-20 in the third quarter to push their lead to 80-58. Brooklyn were in cruise control mode after that and the Bobcats reduced the deficit by 6 in the final period to go down 97-81 eventually.
"We got off to a great start. We executed very well and I thought we passed the ball and set screens better than we have been setting them." P.J. Carlesimo said after the game.
Williams who is being heavily criticized after Avery Johnson was fired, also seemed relieved post game,
"We came out with a lot more energy," Williams said. "I think we had to. I think our backs are against the wall right now."
